How to identify an authentic yixing teapot

First of all, look at color. For a new yixing teapot, although real zisha clay (purple clay) teapots have many colors, it is not bright, but a dim light. If the color is too bright and glare, it is likely not made by authentic yixing raw ore. For some zisha teapot which already used a while, there should be mild light, but the same will not be dazzling color. If your zisha teapot used a long time but the color won't change, then it most likely a fake clay yixing teapot.

Nurturing the yixing clay teapots, some people say seasoning the teapots, is a translation of “养壶” in Chinese. 养(Yǎng, help to develop, to raise, care for) 壶(Hú, pot). YǎngHú is a slow process that require patience and the right technique. It is the general concensus in the Chinese clay teapot community that a well nurtured teapot is more valuable than when it was new. Most importantly, it enhances the tea it steeps. It is just like raising a child. A good Yǎng-ed teapot looks and feels better.  Here are some examples of new pots and seasoned pots:

Yixing clay (zisha clay or purple sand) also called “five color mud” in the past in china, in fact the “five” just means many, there are so many color of yi xing clay, most of western feel curious about it.
